Trull 2nd XI 210-6 Wellington 3rd XI 141

The battle of the top two sides in Division Eight South of the Somerset League went the way of the home side by 69 runs as Trull were the better side on the day and deserved their success, but Wellington still sit second in the table and can move onwards for sure.

The toss was won by the Red and Blacks and Des Campbell asked Trull to bat first in warm and humid conditions.

Trull proceeded to bat well with Crowe (21), Parsons (68), Smith (53) and M.Morrish (25) laying a foundation for a good score as they posted three figures in the 19th over.

Wellington had a better second set of 20 overs as Charlie Burrough took 1-27 in eight overs delivered in three spells and there were two wickets apiece for Richard Henwood and Mark Saunders.

Ben Evett’s direct run out to remove Parsons was a high quality effort.

Wellington saw four of their top five get starts, but not go on to that telling knock that was required to chase down the 211 needed.

Dave Luxton and Mark Saunders added 41 opening wicket runs that was ended when Luxton speared one in the air and was caught by keeper S.Morrish for 21.

Saunders made a day’s top score of 31 and was in good nick before hitting one to long off.

Des Campbell and Thom Trott – making his first appearance of the season – took Wellington past three figures and when Campbell had made 22 he was out to a fine one handed catch in the deep.

Trott made 14 before been one of Smith’s five wicket haul that, in the end, made for the end of the Wellington innings and at 119-7 and on a hat-trick the home side were in the ascendancy for sure, but Wellington’s last four batters did have it in them to get two batting points between them for their side as Ben Evett with 17 and latterly Ollie Beale and Ryan Henwood with the shots and David Derrick with resolute defence got the sixth and seventh points in this respect before Wellington were all out in the 37th over.

Trull took a full 35 points and Wellington 13.
