Wellington Sunday XI 217-9 Wombats 181-8
After the terrible weather of the previous day it was a pleasure to just play the game and this well contested friendly between the Red and Blacks and the side who use Bishops Lydeard CC’s ground for their home games provided some useful match time for all those who played.
Wellington were put into bat and saw Jack Beal and Des Campbell make a 31 run stand for the opening wicket and this saw both pierce the infield and hit plenty of twos; Campbell was out when a good rising slip catch was held by Strange off of visiting skipper York-Smith.
Beal made 19 before he was bowled by Fooks who was disciplined in taking 1-26 in 8 good overs of medium pace.
Robin Davies got himself going and hit three sixes in a his good knock of 51 and with Ben Evett’s lively 29 the Wellington score was doing well.
Bendle with just 20 runs coming from his seven overs did well with the ball for Wombats as his extra height caused some uncomfortable moments for the Wellington batsmen.
This was overcome as Richard Henwood with 36, Lee Nichol with 20, skipper Arron Campbell with 18 and Zandre Swartz with 21 got Wellington to 217-9 at tea.
A direct run out from Ben Evett and a wicket for Ryan Henwood pegged Wombats back early on and leg-spin from Zandre Swartz and Rob Moysey was highly accurate as figures of 1-24 and 2-15 from eight overs each shows.
Robin Davies and his left arm chinaman got a wicket when he bowled Burbridge and the home side were sliding to 71-6 before drinks and were in a spot of bother.
Their cause was aided by a 98 seventh wicket stand between Mhahesh and Chapman who batted for some twenty overs without being split up – despite some excellent seam bowling from Lee Nichol and Jack Beal.
Mhahesh was eventually removed for 55 through Des Campbell’s excellent catch at short mid wicket off of David Derrick and there was a second run out of the innings in the last over as a good game ended with a 36 run for Wellington.
