Wembdon U13 62 Wellington U13 63 – 4 (by Team Manager Tony Hutchings)

Wellington Under 13’s breezed in to the County Cup Quarter Finals with an emphatic 6 wicket win at Wembdon on Sunday morning.

Ben Wardell had no hesitation in inserting the hosts on winning the toss and a great opening burst from Olly Hunt and Tom Shannon saw both openers back in the Hutch and when ‘keeper for the day Ben Eve’s quick thinking saw a stumping remove Wembdon’s 3rd batsman the home side were really struggling.

Wickets continued to tumble and only a late flurry from Jewson, who finished on 18 no and some assistance from the visiting bowlers, who contributed 24 extras, saw a total of 62 posted.

Wellington got off to the worst possible start with last week’s batting star Ben White, removed 1st ball and when James Drohan was run out without scoring, the target looked a long way off.

Olly Hunt arrived at the crease to steady the ship and when he was joined by Ben Wardell they put a stand together that took them to within sight of victory and when Wardell departed Ben Eve joined Hunt to see the boys home with over 7 overs to spare.

The games now come thick and fast with Wembdon making the opposite journey for a league fixture next Sunday (29th May) and now a County Cup Quarter Final to play at the Playing Fields on Tuesday 31st May where the visitors will be either Long Sutton or Brompton Ralph.
