Wellington 213-4 Ilminster 130-7
A quite phenomenal display of hitting from Zandre Swartz, who hit 116 with eleven sixes, powered Wellington into the quarter finals of the Baker Cup last Monday evening when the Cup holders Ilminster were well beaten by 83 runs.
Wellington made over two hundred in a competitive T20 match for possibly the first time after been asked to bat first by the team from South Somerset.
Both Swartz and Aks Latifi were in top gear first up as they added 106 for the first wicket with some power hitting; Latifi with 33 sent the tone with two sixes of his own before Swartz went into overdrive hitting two maxima whilst batting on one knee!
No praise is too high of his effort as he propelled Wellington into orbit.
Alex Sparks with 25 and Luke Desave with 13no topped matters up with knocks of 25 and 13no as Wellington totalled a massive 213-4 in 20 overs.
With debutante Adam Rimell taking two wickets in his opening over Ilminster’s hard task had just got a whole lot harder and although S.Spurway with 39 and Vickery with 31 added 73 for the third wicket they were never approaching the total required.
Arron Campbell with 2-26 in five overs and Dom Drew with 1-36 in five also spun Wellington towards a well deserved win and matters were completed with Jack Beal’s two over spell late that saw him take 1-5.
