Taunton Deane 68-3 Wellington 61-3

Wellington’s second game in their National T20 Club Competition round robin on May Day Bank Holiday Monday was with Taunton Deane and, sadly, it was ruined by rain and ended up being an 8 overs per side game in the end having been rain affected after 5.5 overs of the Deane innings.

From their 8 overs Deane made 68-3 with Machado’s 24 been their best effort so seeing Wellington would need around 8.50 runs per over to win and another good start was obtained by Aks Latifi and Zandre Swartz who got 25 on the board before Latifi was LBW for 12.

Swartz with 13, Luke Desave with 12no and Paul Short with 19 had a real go at the rate required, but Harrison’s wicket maiden made all the difference as Deane won by 7 runs to set up a decider with their County town rivals which was played in decent weather.

Saints made it to the next stage by chasing 113 as both sides found run scoring at a rate hard and this shows that Wellington played well with the bat on both occasions and can use this as a springboard to T20 success at local level this season as the Baker Cup and Somerset Cricket Board KO Cups kick in later in the month.
