Wellington Sunday XI 215-8 Sidmouth Sunday XI 218-4
After losing three early wickets at Devon Premier League side Sidmouth on Sunday a flawless knock of 132 by Luke Desave was the highlight of Wellington’s visit to the East Devon coast where they were defeated by six wickets as pre-season 2016 continued.
Murphy took three wickets in the first seven balls he bowled and Wellington were in a spot of bother, but Desave’s taking the attack to the bowler and Mark Salter’s solid play saw them add 104 for the fourth wicket as Wellington dug themselves out of a hole and into a good position.
Desave played the knock of his life as he made a maiden ton for the Red and Blacks and Salter with 28 played well too.
Rob Moysey and Des Campbell with 11 each saw that Wellington got over the two hundred mark and had recovered well from the start they had made.
J.Fowler with 3-47 was the other main Sidmouth wicket taker.
Tyler Fyfe’s good catch to get rid of Phillips off of Ollie Beale saw Wellington had made an inroad early in the Sidmouth reply and with Jack Beal delivering an impressive eight over burst of 1-27 the home side was in check, but broke away with Hewer’s 84.
This was a good knock from a slow start.
The good work of Zandre Swartz got a stumping for Arron Campbell as the Wellington skipper bowled his off spin well for 1-35 in eight overs, but his opposite number – Lines – from a position of five in the Sidmouth order saw that his side was going to win as he made 41no despite Ollie Wilkins taking a good boundary catch to give Ryan Henwood the wicket of Hewer.
The home side won with 5.3 overs to spare.
