Under 11s start with 22 run victory (by Tony Hutchings)

Wellington Under 11s kicked off their season in the Taunton and District Youth Cricket League, with an entertaining 22 run victory at a chilly Bagborough on Friday evening.

Batting first the 2 James – Curry and Weymouth – batted sensibly to see the score to 212 at the end of their 4 overs.

Riley Bowler and Josh Cashmore then upped the tempo, adding 17 runs in their 4 overs, followed by Marcia Reah and Oliver Hansard who were forced to defend, but still took the score to 240 at the ¾ point.

The last pair of Jacob Hurry and Luke Golding both struck fine boundaries in seeing the visitors close their innings on 256 with no wickets falling in the whole innings.

Wellington shone in the field with accurate bowling restricting the hosts to only extras until the 7th over but by the end of the 12th over Bagborough had a glimmer of a chance reaching 234 with just the 4 overs remaining.

Oliver Hansard then took a wicket with the 1st ball of the 13th over and Luke Golding took a wicket in the 14th meaning by the end Wellington had restricted their opponents to 234 and a fine 22 run victory.

All players deserve credit, but a special mention goes to the 2 wicket takers – Hansard who returned figures of 1 for 7 from his 2 overs and Golding who finished with 1 for 5 from his 2.

Next Friday the youngsters are on their travels again when they have a cup date at Taunton Vale (6pm).
