Youngsters suffer defeat in League Opener

Wellington Under 13s started their league campaign on Sunday morning, at home to Ashbrittle, and suffered a 39 run reverse. Winning the toss, home skipper Oli Beale opted to bowl first, and this looked a good decision, when restricting the visitors to 26 runs at the halfway stage. All the Wellington bowlers had a turn with the ball, and bowled respectfully, especially captain Beale, who only conceded 7 runs in his 4 overs, and Ben Eve taking 3 weeks, in his spell. Ashbrittle tried to push on in their 2nd 10 overs, and finished up on 255, leaving Wellington with a very gettable 256 in their 20. Unfortunately, as was the case last season, losing wickets, and the 8 run penalty for this, meant they were always struggling in reply. Logan May, Ben Eve and Oli Beale all made double figures, and in fact the team total would have reached 304, but the 11 wickets lost, meant the 88 run deduction, proved the difference.

The team are in cup action next Sunday, when they travel to the Quantocks, to face Bagborough
