Uphill Castle 2nd XI 217 Wellington 2nd XI 181

Wellington 2nd XI will be ruing some bad luck on occasions in this Somerset League Division Three game as they fell some 36 runs short at Uphill Castle last weekend as they lost their last five wickets for just 20 runs and saw nearly four overs go unused to collect 16 points to the hosts 35.

Wellington saw a fifty run opening stand be posted by Hodder and Williams that was broken when Will Derrick caught Hodder for 20 off of Arron Campbell.

Earlier in this stand Jake Nichol had bowled Williams with a no ball – he went on to make a fine 69.

Arron Campbell’s 4-56 in 12 overs saw three more wickets collected in quick succession after his opening breakthrough as Mark Salter provided him with three excellent catches in and around the slips and gully region.

Jack Beal was in good form with 3-39 in 11 overs as he took late wickets in what was his second spell.

Richard Henwood went unrewarded for his decent 12 overs that cost only 46.

Chapman with 64no saw that Uphill got to and past 200 at tea.

Robin Davies and Arron Campbell put on 21 opening wicket runs for Wellington that was ended when Davies was LBW for 10; Campbell hit a six in his 17 run knock as Uphill opening bowler Jobling took 2-27 in 12 good overs.

Aks Latifi and Mark Salter added 74 for Wellington’s third wicket and this was the base to go on from as when the stand was ended with Latifi being well caught for 48 100 were needed with seven wickets in hand and overs to play with.

Salter’s departure for 28 just seven runs after Latifi had departed was a hammer blow to Wellington as was Kevin Crout getting run out for 17 with the score at 161-5, this making it be six down.

Jack Beal had batted with both Salter and Crout and made a fine 23 with a six that sailed out of the ground, but Chapman, with his second telling contribution in the game in taking 5-48 in 9 overs, saw that Wellington were dismissed for 181 in 41.3 overs.
