Taunton 3rd XI 229 Wellington Sunday XI 121-5
Wellington’s other game at Gipsy Lane last Saturday afternoon saw a side composed of 2nd and 3rd XI players take on a side based on the home Club’s 3rd XI with a few 2nd XI players thrown in.
Through Oldfield and Blackmore Taunton got off to a brisk start as another good batting pitch was the dominant aspect of the game – Jack Beal and Lee Nichol did not bowl badly at all, but any shot that pierced the infield was going to go to the boundary.
The breakthrough came when Jack Beal ran out Oldfield as he was backing up.
From then on Taunton’s innings saw Wellington take wickets at regular intervals as Richard Henwood took 4-41 in 9 overs and Ben Evett 4-39 in 7.5 overs.
More good catching from Wellington saw the home side were despatched for 229 in 36.5 overs.
Wellington lost two wickets early and were in trouble, but new recruit Jack Samuel held firm all innings after he arrived at the crease one down and made 56no with numerous boundaries to boot.
He shared good middle order stands with Ollie Wilkins, Scott Davy and Jack Beal.
At 121-5 in 22.4 overs the game was there to be won by either side, but the rain that claimed the game on the ground’s main pitch had the same effect here and the match was abandoned as a draw.
