Wellington Sunday XI 230 Trull Sunday XI 141

Wellington continued their pre-season preparation with more fine weather when they made the short trip to Somerset League Division Four side Trull last Sunday and came away with an 89 run success.

Batting first Arron Campbell and Robin Davies put on 24 first up for Wellington in good fashion and this continued when Trevor Brooks arrived at the crease as he and Davies added 36 for the second wicket in untroubled style until running a third on a wide saw Davies run out for 32.

Brooks played in a very positive manner in making 56 and with Kevin Crout making 13 Wellington were well set to make a good total.

Aks Latifi saw this would be the case with 41 along with Des Campbell’s 18 and a late burst of 23 from Jack Beal saw Wellington ended on 230 all out with one over left.

Wellington went with seam and spin when they came to bowl and saw Jack Beal again bowl with pace and vigour and with Ben Evett’s leg spinners at the other end taking 2-18 in six overs the home side were in trouble early on.

Despite seeing his first over go for two boundaries skipper Richard Henwood took the Club’s first five wicket haul of the new season taking 5-14 in six overs as he ran through Trull’s middle order after Seward made a decent 28 and Nightingale 16.

Arron Campbell took a caught and bowled chance and from then Wellington were stalled by a ninth wicket stand of 57 between Parsons with 36no and Morrish with 23.

Last man Payne made 11 and with Kevin Crout’s 2-11 ending matters with thirteen balls left Wellington headed home via a hot supper with their hosts in good fettle.
