Wellington 3rd XI 95 Wembdon 4th XI 96-9
Wellington 3rd XI – playing in Division 8 South of the Somerset League after promotion – so nearly successfully defended their small total at Bridgwater Academy last weekend, but the number of wides sent down had a big bearing on the one wicket loss they suffered.
Wellington were put into bat and were 7-2 at one point, but solid knocks from skipper Des Campbell (12) and Richard Short (16) steadied things for the Red and Blacks third string.
Further good efforts came from Lee Nichol and Ben Evett who made 16 and 20 respectively, but the tail was dismissed within the space of 6 runs so as to be all out for 95 in 27.3 overs with Dunster’s 3-7 in 5 overs been a good effort for Wembdon.
Macaulay Campbell and Lee Nichol put in a great shift for Wellington; Campbell took 1-27 in 7 overs and Nichol bowled 12 overs straight through taking 4-31 as the Wembdon innings teetered.
Richard Short and Tom Hawkings with 3-26 in 9 and 1-9 in 3.2 overs respectively reduced Wembdon to 84-9 and with 12 needed Wellington were close to pulling off the great escape, but Cook with 8no batted with tenacity to see Wembdon over the line and to 29 points to Wellington’s 13.
Next weekend sees the side host North Petherton 2nd XI at Wellington School from 2.00pm
