Wellington Midweek XI 101-8 Sampford Peverell Midweek XI 105-4
Wellington Midweek XI slipped to a disappointing six wicket defeat at home to Sampford Peverell last Thursday evening when their batting did not really fire in this 20/20 match.
Wellington opted to bat first on a warm evening, but were never able to get on top of an accurate Peverell attack; Franks with 2-19 and Radley with 2-6 applied good control with the ball for their side as only Aks Latifi with 14 and Mark Saunders with 16 got going for Wellington; the Red and Blacks effort was saved by Julian Jones and Adrian Lee adding 43 for the ninth wicket as they played with spirit – Jones top scored for Wellington with 29no and Lee hit a crisp 21no as three figures were posted off the last ball of the home side’s innings.
Sampford Peverell were into their stride quickly as Pitkin and Coles had 29 on the board before Julian Jones and Adrian Lee combined twice through Jones taking two good catches to give Lee 2-15.
Max Capaldi marked his return to Wellington action with 1-22 and there was a wicket for Tom Baycock, but Peverell won with over five overs to spare and consigned Wellington to a first midweek 20/20 defeat of 2011.
