Wellington 2nd XI 163-7 Westlands 2nd XI 165-1

Wellington 2nd XI had another hard day at home last weekend in Division Four of the Somerset League when they were well beaten by Westlands 2nd XI who cruised to victory by nine wickets with seven overs to spare.

The Yeovil based side won an important toss and asked Wellington to bat and a wicket was lost with the score on ten; the Red and Blacks second string through Trevor Brooks with 34 and Mark Salter with 45 did get going again, but the Westlands bowling was accurate and did not give much away – this and several Wellington players getting started, but no-one playing the ‘big’ innings saw that the score was a modest 163-7 at tea.

Julian Jones with 33 and skipper Simon Rudd with 30no made the other Wellington scores of note and Greenwood with 5-34 in 10 overs starred for Westlands with the ball.

The Wellington bowling lacked the penetration it had shown at Cheddar the previous week as Millard with 81no and Parker with 40 added 104 for Westlands opening wicket; this stand was broken when Ross Brayley accepted a catch off of Graham Sparks, but that was the extent of the wicket taking for Wellington as Westlands took 32 points back east with them leaving Wellington with 9 and a crucial visit to North Perrott this weekend.
