Trull Sunday XI 136 Wellington Sunday XI 137-7

Wellington Sunday XI completed a friendly double over West Somerset League Division Four side Trull last weekend when they got home by three wickets in a match that saw them dominate more than the final analysis may suggest.

Trull opted to bat first and found George Hooper and Jake Nichol in good form with the new ball as Hooper took two wickets in his first spell before coming back later to end up with 2-24 in 8 good overs to carry on from his effort for the 2nd XI the previous day.

Nichol took a good caught and bowled chance to see the back of M.Ward for 20 as he was getting set for a longer innings.

The path of the bowling attack been split between the younger players of the side saw Aaron Chugg and Sam Baycock come on as first change and they kept up the good pressure that Hooper and Nichol had built up.

Baycock made it good weekend for the family as he followed elder brother Tom in having an effect on the game he was playing in by taking 2-21 in eight fine overs of left arm spin that kept the Trull middle order in check.

Paul Short swapped his off spin for seam up and only went for 18 in seven overs despite Ley with 42 top scoring for Trull – not for the first time this season Rob Moysey wrapped things up for the Red and Blacks with 4-5 in 5.5 overs, Aks Latifi enjoyed a rare bowl and got a wicket too to see that Trull were all out for 136 with one ball left.

Max Capaldi and Aks Latifi got Wellington’s innings going well with Latifi launching a six into The Court before been bowled by the impressive M.Ward.

James Dyke – back from Thailand for a fortnight – reminded Wellington of his batting style with a fine knock of 20 that took Wellington’s score past fifty, Capaldi made a fine 37 but a wobble occurred and at 102-5 solidity was needed – James Bath and George Hooper batted sensibly as Wellington inched to victory with Bath making 15.

Jake Nichol with a useful 12 settled Wellington’s nerves and although he was run out Sam Baycock and Paul Short saw the job was done with 14 overs to spare.

Next Sunday Wellington host Ashbrittle and then have two Taunton and District Sunday League matches at home to North Newton and away to Taunton St Andrews to end the month before four matches in September.
