Wellington Under 11s 203 Minehead Under 11s 266

Wellington Under 11s started their 2010 season with an away fixture against Minehead writes Mark Salter.

Wellington’s young and inexperienced side were asked to bat first and faced a well drilled and older Minehead side and sent Declan Morgan and Kian Gardner to open the batting and did well to lose only three wickets on a bouncy artificial wicket that the pair were not used to.

Brad Rowlandson and Jake Haskell were Wellington’s second pair and they ran well between the wickets and lost only one wicket against some accurate bowling.

Callum Vernon and Jacob Evans were Wellington’s third pair and they did well too – not losingĀ a wicket during their allotted four overs.

Tom Doyle and Ryan Henwood faced the last four overs and were unable to push the score on, but they did well to keep the best of the Minehead attack at bay.

A final score of 203 was not a huge one, but was something to bowl at for Wellington.

They needed to get wickets if they were to put any pressure on Minehead, unfortunately Wellington bowled too many wides and were never able to apply pressure on the Minehead batting line up.

Callum Vernon, Jake Haskell and Jacob Evans all took a wicket, but the accuracy required was not there and too many extras were sent down to challenge Minehead.

The game however was a good start for an inexperienced Wellington side who now know what standard they will need to reach to compete over the forthcoming season.
