Wellington 2nd XI 100 Bishops Lydeard 2nd XI 101-4

Wellington 2nd XI came unstuck against a confident and buoyant Bishops Lydeard side last weekend in Division One of the Somerset League Reserves competition as the side were asked to bat first for the third time in three matches.

Trevor Brooks with 15 kept the Lydeard bowlers at bay and decent contributions from John Paine (10), Richard Short (19) and Graham Sparks (16) also featured for Wellington, but the Lydeard attack took wickets at regular intervals with Wookey’s 3-30 and Clarke’s 3-28 leading the way.

A good last wicket stand of 18 between Jake Nicol and Alex Troake got Wellington to three figures.

Lydeard had to work for the 101 runs to win as Richard Henwood and Martin Short let only 40 runs go in 15 overs between them and there were wickets for George Coate and Adrian Lee, but Clarke with 35no saw the home side over the line with six wickets in hand.

Trevor Brooks showed his capacity as a bowler once more as he took 2-22, but Wellington could not prevent a six wicket defeat and took nine points from the match.

They travel to Chard this weekend.
