Under 13’s put to the sword by Waaresinghe (by Team Manager Tony Hutchings)

Wellington Under 13s were put to the sword by Bishops Hull’s Waaresinghe with both bat and ball on Sunday morning at a scorching playing fields in the Taunton and District Youth League.

Inserted on a good track Wellington made steady progress in the first half of the innings through Ben Eve and James Drohan, but after these departed and Olly Hunt was unlucky to sky one it was left to Ben White, who was returning from injury, to knit the innings together, with a fine 32no.

Aided by some late cameos from Cam Forrest and Ben Wardell the hosts posted 78 for 6 with Waaresinghe returning 2-20 from his 4 overs.

He then took the fight to the home side when opening the batting and looked largely untroubled in reaching his retiring score of 30 but by this time the victory target was in sight.

A twist appeared possible with Hendy and Smith back in the hutch but Bishops Hull’s Fouracre and Rolbridge stayed calm to nurse them home at the end of the 14th over.

The pick of the attack was probably Hunt who returned 1 for 9 from his 3 overs.

The boys next travel to Wembdon for round 2 of the County Cup next Sunday (22 May).
