Wellington 3rd XI 286-5 All Saints 124-7
Wellington 3rd XI once more scored heavily in Division Eight South of the Somerset League last weekend with a 162 run win over All Saints in a game that was played at Milverton CC last weekend.
Batting first once more saw Dave Luxton and Mark Saunders carry on from where they had left off at Ilminster the weekend before and this time their opening stand was worth 25 when Luxton pulled a muscle and had to retire injured for six, but he was able to take to the field later.
This saw Richard Henwood come to the crease and he scored at a good pace with a knock of 56 so that when he was out with the team score at 85 there were 22 overs left.
Wellington took 201 from this allocation as Saunders slammed five sixes in a knock of 111 as he and skipper Des Campbell with a fine knock of 69 added 177 second wicket runs to take Wellington towards 300; Matt Bettles with 13 added a last dose of runs to the Red and Blacks third string’s total.
For All Saints – from near Axminster – Wallace with 3-33 from his eight overs was the best bowler by far.
In three games played between the two sides Saints have scored just 348 runs in 129 overs faced and this was another slow affair when they batted.
Charlie Burrough removed Seaward for no score and Matt Bettles ran out Bryant and at 9-2 Saints were in a spot of bother.
Macaulay Campbell went for just 15 runs in his six overs.
Further good bowling from youngsters Ollie Beale and Ryan Henwood kept the runs down in the middle overs as Wallace now batted well for Saints with 35.
Wickets for Richard Henwood and Matt Bettles saw Wellington had taken seven wickets all told and an unbroken stand of 24 between P.Willmington and Empson ended the game.
Wellington took 32 points and All Saints 11.
