Wellington 283-5 Ashbrittle 110
A lovely sunny spring day welcomed Wellington’s first home game of the season on the Saturday of the May Day Bank Holiday weekend and they played themselves into form with a good all round showing against Ashbrittle who will be playing one division below the Red and Blacks in 2016.
Zandre Swartz was into gear early as he made 26 out of an opening stand of 31 and he was going at a good rate before he was bowled by Ashbrittle skipper Jack Bradbury.
Alex Sparks joined Campbell and they added 167 for the second wicket with Sparks lashing a fine 103 with four sixes as he unleashed the opening ton of the season.
Campbell made a fine 54 and when he was out at 209-3 the Wellington middle order continued to score well adding another 74 runs by tea – Aks Latifi with 18, Ollie Wilkins with 17no, Mark Salter with 14 and Luke Desave with 10no saw Wellington to a fine total.
Ben Franks, Gavin Dawes and Steve Redwood were wicket takers for Ashbrittle.
Luke Desave was soon into his stride as he took four top order wickets in a five over burst; accuracy was key to this success as he bowled three of his victims.
Luke Williams and George Sinnott battled away for Ashbrittle as they hit some nice shots in support of Chris Hill who was first in and last out for 36.
Jack Beal and Dom Drew saw that it was seam and spin that Wellington turned to after the opening attack had been rested and each took a wicket and it was left to Charlie Burrough with 2 victims and Arron Campbell with one to end the game with 21 overs unused.
