Trull Sunday XI 124 Wellington Sunday XI 130-2

More players got some good pre-season practice in for Wellington at Somerset League Division Five club Trull last Sunday afternoon when some incisive seam bowling saw the home side reduced to the depths of 22-7 only to rally and get to 124 all out through some spirited late order hitting with Wellington following up with a good batting display of their own on their way to an eight wicket win.

Lee and Jake Nichol took the new ball for Wellington and caused havoc for the Trull top order after they had elected to bat as Seward slammed one to point where Trevor Brooks took a good catch off of Nichol Jnr and then his elder brother found Kierley was walking around his crease and a smart stumping from Kevin Crout saw him go back whence he came.

Nichol Jnr then proceeded to take another three wickets to take 4-8 in six overs with Lee taking 1-6 in six overs.

A welcome return to the Club from Darren Davis after a few seasons away from action saw him take 3-5 in six overs as Trull just did not deal with the surface or the hungry Wellington attack.

However through G.Johnson and Goldsworthy adding 71 for the ninth wicket the home side did get past three figures and had something to bowl at; the stand was ended with a run out and then Ben Evett bowled last man O’Connell to see Wellington would need 125 to win after tea.

Trevor Brooks and Neil Hendy opened up for Wellington and added 27 with Brooks making 18 before spinner Fitt bowled him.

Hendy batted the innings for 44no as he was watchful when needed and put the bad ball away well when it came along.

Kevin Crout with 16 made a good contribution as he added 42 with Hendy for the second wicket and when he was bowled Zandre Swartz took to the crease and made a fine 37no as he sealed the game for his new Club with a six.
