Wellington 185-8 Temple Cloud 188-4
After opting to bat first Paul Short and Alex Sparks got Wellington to 20 before Short was bowled by Mahoney who took 3-25 in 12 overs, combining well with S.Curtis (12-6-20-3) to see Wellington lose six wickets for 26 runs and be on the back foot at 46-6 in 15 overs.
This was the sign for Rob Moysey and James Bath to add 93 runs for the Red and Blacks seventh wicket as they took away Temple’s initial energy; Moysey played a calm innings that saw him run the ball around for singles and twos before applying the accelerator later on to make 44no; Bath made a debut 1st XI fifty as he made a capital 51 with eight fours – a top effort under pressure by the 16 year old.
When Bath was out bowled Luke Desave and Ali Bunce worked with Moysey to get Wellington 185-8 at tea – a supreme recovery in the last 30 overs of their innings as Temple Cloud’s second string attack did not have the menace or ability of the openers.
Although Luke Desave got rid of Hayne for 11 with the score on 20 as James Bath added to his good game with a smart catch behind the stumps Sheppard and Hamblin added a calm and collected 87 runs for Temple’s second wicket as Wellington did not break through despite trying spin and seam in equal measures; Ali Bunce with 2-41 in 9 overs bowled well and he got both of these batsmen, but Temple skipper K.Curtis with 60no did the job for his side with 6.5 overs left to give Temple 33 points and Wellington 13.
Wellington entertain Watchet this weekend and the game begins at 1.15pm.
