Wellington Sunday XI 231-5 Street Sunday XI 158

Wellington Sunday XI resumed action after a few weeks off while the Club indulged in some off field activities with this fine 73 run win over WEPL Somerset Division side Street at home last weekend.

Wellington batted first and saw Alex Sparks and Aks Latifi scorch away to an opening stand of 116 in 18 overs; although both were dropped once each they blitzed the Street bowling with some excellent cover drives been displayed by both players – the fun was ended when Crees (1-60 in 10 overs) got Latifi to play on for 47.

James Bath punched a couple of fours to the short off side boundary before been caught in the gully; this brought Rob Moysey to the crease and he and Sparks added 36 for Wellington’s third wicket before Sparks was trapped LBW for 80 by J.Linter (1-35 in 10 overs), Moysey had made 28 before having to retire hurt following an issue with the broken finger he suffered earlier in July.

James Dyke with a brisk 14 and Steve Symons with 13no saw Wellington past 200 and runs kept been added to the Red and Blacks total through Charlie Davies and his 21no late on took Wellington to 231-5 at tea.

Wellington snapped up a wicket from the fourth ball of the innings as James Bath pocketed a smart gully catch off of George Hooper (2-51 in 9 overs) and Aaron Chugg with 1-29 in six overs got rid of Street keeper Frost and he bowled better than these figures suggest.

Crees with 32 and Storey with 24 added 61 for Street’s third wicket, but Rob Moysey removed Storey LBW and at 77-5 through Paul Short getting Brown stumped Street were in trouble, although Ward with a patient 17 and J.Linter with a fine 37 kept the Wellington attack at bay whilst adding 51 for the sixth wicket; this was ended when Chris Shapland took 3-16 and had a big hand in ending the Street innings as he bowled J.Linter with a fine delivery and did the same to Ward.

James Dyke took a late wicket too and with six overs to go Wellington had done the job and had an impressive 73 run win to savour.
