Uphill Castle Sunday XI 213-9 Wellington Sunday XI 214-4
Wellington Sunday XI recorded a fine friendly win at Weston Super Mare based side Uphill Castle last weekend when they chased a decent enough total down with nine balls to spare as the double header of Sunday matches for 2011 with the WEPL Bristol and Somerset club ended all square with an away win each.
Uphill decided to bat first on a good track and saw Tasker with 30 and Wilcox with 14 get to within one run of a half century opening stand before Ali Bunce got the breakthrough that Wellington desired as Will Hinchcliffe pocketed a low chance at mid wicket.
Sam Murdock with 3-30 got rid of the Uphill middle order including danger man Kersey who had made a hundred at Wellington back in May and at 64-4 Uphill were in a spot of bother, but their skipper A.Llewellyn with 84 and Holt with 28 made things better for them with a fifth wicket stand of 51 and the lower Uphill order got their score to 213-9 at tea with their skipper falling to Adrian Lee, he was joined by Alex Troake and Paul Short in claiming late wickets.
Holt got a wicket for Uphill Castle before Charlie Davies and Max Capaldi settled into a 144 run second wicket stand for Wellington as they dominated the game; mixing well placed nudges and glances for singles with powerful boundary shots saw knocks of 78 and 93no posted.
Davies was caught and bowled by Tasker, but Sam Murdock with 15 and Steve Symons with 10 kept the Wellington run rate ticking over nicely and it fell to Paul Short to win the game with a six; good times for Wellington!
