Wellington 118-2 – Bridgwater 120-2
Wellington returned to SCCC Indoor League action for the first time since mid-November and were defeated by four wickets by reigning champions Bridgwater, the Red and Blacks claiming five points in the process.
Stuart Currall and Thom Trott got Wellington away well as both made it to the retirement level of 25 with Trott lashing two hard hit sixes along the way.Currall was more circumspect, but ran the ball around the arena well.
Wellington nudged their way to 118-2 in 12 overs and this was a reasonable score to try and defend.
Bridgwater took until the penultimate over to make the runs, but they were always in command of the situation.
Bob Trott bowled an effective spell of off-spin and was rewarded when he bowled Standerwick behind his legs first ball and Alex Sparks showed a good turn and throw to run out Coombes, but Bridgwater recorded their eighth win in nine matches and look as if they will be there or thereabouts again this winter.
For Wellington this was a third defeat in a row following an unbeaten five games at the start of the season, but they will see next Sunday’s double header against Butterleigh (1.00pm) and Sampford Arundel A (3.20pm) as a good opportunity to get into the top half of the table.
Currently Wellington are fifth.
