Wellington Sunday XI 157-6 Burnham-on-Sea Sunday XI 158-3
Wellington Sunday XI found their Burnham-on-Sea counterparts in dominant mood last weekend when the home side recorded a seven wicket win in a match where Wellington had faded after a good start with the bat.
Wellington were asked to bat first on a firm track and Rob Moysey and Michael Gill got the Red and Blacks going well with a 54 run opening stand as Moysey worked the ball round well and Gill posted a number of very pleasant looking cover and extra cover drives as they built a good foundation – it was ended was Moysey was caught behind off of Green.
Gill continued to a fine 43 and was only denied a maiden Wellington fifty by a boundary catch with Brogden (4-38) doing the damage – Aks Latifi with three big sixes in his 36 had earlier hit Brogden out of the attack as he played a powerful innings and with Adrian Lee and George Coate making a couple of scores in the teens Wellington were looking to push on with ten overs to go, but they got bogged down and only got to 157-6 in 40 overs at tea.
For Burnham – of Division Two of the Somerset League – Ashfold with 61no and Bloodworth with 56 added 96 up front and this won the game for their side without doubt and they took advantage of rustiness in the Wellington attack to score at a good rate.
Rob Moysey got Bloodworth to play on and took two catches as well to see that Alex Troake and Will Hinchcliffe got a wicket each, but Burnham won with 7.5 overs to spare.
