Linden Park 79 Wellington Midweek XI 82-2

Wellington Midweek XI won for the first time this season when they won this evening match with Kent tourists Linden Park last Tuesday in a match that saw a good brand of attacking cricket from Steve Symons’ team.

Linden Park opted to bat first and Rowan Varkevisser bowled with great pace in his four over burst as he took 4-17 with three Linden players been castled and Trevor Brooks obliging behind the sticks for the other.

Jake Nicol – bowling with improved accuracy currently – let only eleven runs go in four good medium paced overs.

Sam Murdock built on his good Sunday XI innings with a composed bowling performance to take 2-20 in four overs.

Schultz with 36 threatened to break loose, but a great boundary catch by Chris Rudd saw the back of him.

Alec Short with 3-4 and Richard Short with 1-0 rounded things off for Wellington as the tourists were despatched for 79 and lost their last four wickets for no score.

Wellington were confronted by a useful bowling attack and a wicket was lost at 15, but Marc Holloway and Chris Rudd played well by combining steady and explosive play together in an effective 57 run second wicket stand.

Rudd was dismissed for 26 with five good fours and it was left to Holloway who made 41no and James Bath on his senior debut to see Wellington home by eight wickets.
