Taunton Deane 4th XI 124 Wellington 2nd XI 125-1
Wellington 2nd XI has won the Somerset League’s Division Six South title for 2021 and so will play at Division Five level in 2022 as the team’s stated aim for this season was completed at the last game and their rise back up the county league structure has commenced at the earliest opportunity.
Congratulations go to Alex Troake and Thom Trott as team captain and vice captain and their entire squad who have been top or thereabouts from the off after two tough seasons in 2018 and 2019.
A record of twelve wins from eighteen games realised 484 points at an average of 27 and this is good enough for the top spot.
As for this game Alex Troake won the toss and asked Taunton Deane’s fourth string to take first knock and they were reeling at 17-5 as Andy Hurry with 4-14 in eight overs and Ian Hewson with 3-17 in same did a dismantling job for the Red and Blacks second string.
Chaffey with 29 started something of a rescue job for Deane’s fourth string, but it was not enough in the end although Quirk with 47 and Jones with 19 did prolong the innings until the last over as Thom Trott ended matters.
There were three catches for Ben Trott and Jacob Hurry completed a fine season as team keeper with two catches off his dad Andy.
Thom Trott completed his stellar season with the bat with another half century as he made 58 not out as he added 36 first wicket runs with Trevor Brooks.
He was joined by Jacob Hurry who made a debut league half century with 51 not out and with a ton of overs left spare it was time to crack open the champagne and celebrate a job well done from start to finish.
