Taunton St Andrews 2nd XI 198-8 Wellington 139
Wellington were 60 runs short of their victory target last weekend at already relegated Taunton St Andrews 2nd XI in the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier League as the Red and Blacks fell short in their run chase.
Saints won the toss and chose to bat first and they scored solidly throughout their innings as Kevin Parsons with 53 in 73 balls was their top scorer and he was ably supported by Terry with 27, Clapp with 23 and former Wellington footballer Steve Jenkins with 27.
Will Derrick was in good fettle with the new ball for Wellington as he returned 2-27 in nine overs and later on fellow seamers Ryan Aingworth with 2-26 in 9 overs and Neil Hendy with 2-37 in eight overs continued the work.
Wickets also came the way of Luke Desave and Jack Beal as the Saints second string, who have had a tough season after arriving at this level due to been Somerset League champions in 2019, had made just short of 200 at tea.
Wellington attacked the total from the off and their innings was over with 16 overs going unused as they scored well, but lost wickets too.
Nathan Roberts with a classy 44 was top man for the Red and Blacks along with Ben Evett who cracked 28 in just 25 balls before falling to a run out and there was some late order clean hitting from Ryan Aingworth who hit 24 in just 13 balls with two huge sixes.
For Saints Walford was expensive, but did take wickets too as he realised 3-47 in 8 overs and Woodland with 4-35 in eight wrapped matters up.
