Sparkford 187 Wellington 2nd XI 172

Wellington 2nd XI remain in pole position in Division Six South of the Somerset League with two to play despite this narrow loss at fourth placed Sparkford last weekend and seeing their points average slightly eroded as a result.

Travelling to Sparkford to find a square that was wet through having had a sprinkler left on for some time saw the home side hastily get a wicket prepared, forfeit the toss and bat on Wellington’s ask in a thirty over per side game.

At 22-2 with Andy Hurry (6-2-10-2) having removed two of the top three and then Alex Troake taking out J.Elsworth for 19, at 49-3 Wellington were in a good position, but Harvey with 60 and Enticott with 84 powered their side to 187-5 in the end with Thom Trott removing them both as the Sparkford innings closed out.

Thom Trott and Paul Short opened well for Wellington with 33 coming before Trott was out for 18; two more wickets made the Red and Blacks second string 40-3, but it was Mark Salter who joined Short and in making 25 with three fours and a six got the score to 89-4 when he was trapped LBW.

Short continued his fine knock that would eventually see him make 43 in tandem with Rob Moysey who sculpted 39 to take the score to 137-5 when Short was bowled by J.Elsworth who took 3-24.

Moysey guided things to 169-9 when he was out and the innings and with it the game was all over when Lee Nichol was out to the last ball of the match.

Wellington now face Broadway and Horton 2nd XI at home this weekend and then see the season out away to Taunton Deane 4th XI on the Bank Holiday Saturday with some work still to do to make this a really successful season.
