Staplegrove 163-7 Wellington 164-8

A sparkling effort by Nathan Roberts who carried his bat for 69 not out saw Wellington over the line to a two wicket win in the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier League last time out against basement boys Staplegrove and with it sixteen points were claimed to ease the Red and Blacks upwards.

On a genuinely hot day it was the away team that won the toss and opted to bat first and they got away to the tune of a 24 run opening stand between T.Pantling and T.Bishop that was ended when the latter was LBW to Luke Desave for seven on his way to 1-30 in nine overs.

B.Pantling joined his sibling and made a slick 28, but at 71-3 both brothers were out as Arron Campbell, pleasingly bowling a full block of nine overs of off spin taking 1-10 with four maidens, took out T.Pantling for 24 and Ryan Aingworth with an excellent overall 3-26 in nine overs saw a Luke Desave catch account for the other.

From then on Staplegrove ground out a total of 163-7 in 45 overs rather than anything else as G.Bishop took 92 balls to make 33 not out with Jack Beal and Paul Short weighing in with one wicket each.

It was Short who put 68 opening wicket runs on the board for Wellington as he and Nathan Roberts got Wellington pretty much halfway to the required total with Short hitting 39 with five fours and a six in 42 balls in a brisk knock.

Runs continued to flow for Wellington, but so did wickets for Staplegrove as J.Pantling with 4-33 and T.Pantling with 3-37 kept their side in the game with Arron Campbell (11), Luke Desave (12) and Callum Hendy (10) keeping the middle order for Wellington in the runs.

All the time Nathan Roberts was the rock that the Wellington innings was being based around as he made 69 not out in 88 balls with eight fours in what was a blinding knock and it was he and Will Derrick who got Wellington over the line with an unbroken stand of a dozen runs for the ninth wicket.
