North Petherton 2nd XI 121 Wellington 3rd XI 124-3

Wellington 3rd XI continued their fine form through June with a third consecutive full points win in Division Seven Red of the Somerset League when they took on North Petherton 2nd XI at Sampford Arundel CC last weekend.

As a result of this run of results Richard Henwood’s team are in fourth place and are not too far away from Stoke St Gregory who top the table.

North Petherton opted to bat on winning the toss and although their skipper Lewis was out for just one when Ed Ogilvie held on to a boundary chance off of Cam Sentance a series of hard hitting scores followed as Edwards with 24, Pike with 16 and Francis with 38 took their score to 110-3 as Alex Derbidge and Tyler Fyfe took the other wickets to fall to this point with Marc Bright providing support with his off spin.

When Richard Henwood and Aks Latifi joined the attack the dismissal of Francis saw Petherton slide to 121 all out in just 25 as the skipper took 4-8 in four overs and Latifi 2-2 in the same.

Cam Sentance made for a great run out and Wellington’s third string needed 122 to win.

James Brackenbury was in fine form once more as he cracked 74no with two sixes to see his side home.

The main stand was that of 79 for the third wicket with Richard Henwood and this pair nearly saw their side home when Henwood was caught for 12 with the score on 117; this brought David Derrick to the crease and with his having faced a wide and a dot ball to an end an over Brackenbury slapped the first ball of the next over for six to end matters and the game was done.
