Broadway and Horton 2nd XI 146 Wellington 2nd XI 148-2

Wellington 2nd XI are still top of the shop in Division Six South of the Somerset League as they chalked up another impressive victory by way of this eight wicket win at third placed Broadway and Horton 2nd XI last weekend as Alex Troake’s charges won with just under half of the allotted overs available to collect another 35 point haul.

On winning the toss Alex Troake asked the home side to bat first and he was rewarded by Lee Nichol and Ian Hewson taking a wicket each and with Simon Burrough effecting a run out B and H were 9-3 in the blink of an eye.

Cook with a fine 41 was the mainstay of the home side’s innings and he took the score to 82-4 when he was LBW to Troake who claimed 3-30 in eight overs with his leg spin.

Tom Shannon was tidy in delivering his medium pace in the middle overs before Rob Moysey with 3-25 saw off the B and H tail and it was 146 to win.

This was achieved in great style with vice captain Thom Trott leading the line for Wellington’s second string with 81no as the winning line was reached with 17.3 overs to spare following an opening stand of 33 with Oli Beale who made eleven and a second wicket stand of 85 with Simon Burrough who made 31 fine runs.

Mark Salter with 15no joined Trott to finish the job and with one game to go in the first half the side is looking good for an instant return to a higher level at the first time of asking.
