Long Sutton 2nd XI 89 Wellington 2nd XI 90-1

Wellington 2nd XI continued their great start to the 2021 season in Division Six South of the Somerset League and are in a great position to start to rise back up this structure at the first time of asking as Alex Troake’s charges took another full haul of 35 points from this visit to bottom side Long Sutton 2nd XI.

Sutton opted to bat first and found both Lee Nichol and Ian Hewson in great form as Nichol ripped out the first three home batsmen as he took 8-0-25-3.

Despite going without reward Hewson with 8-5-13-0 was metronomic in his efforts with the new ball and he and Nichol are forming a robust new ball partnership for Wellington’s second string.

Tom Shannon with 1-13 in four overs and Lewis Sparks with 3-20 in six overs undid the Long Sutton middle order and they were on the slide with only a 23 run stand for the eighth wicket been of any note as C.Vigar Jnr made 18 which was the highest score on offer.

Leg spin from Rob Moysey and Alex Troake wrapped matters up in 29.3 overs.

Thom Trott and Nathan Roberts took up the challenge of chasing the 90 Wellington needed to win and the deal was done in 11.3 overs with Roberts being the only casualty of the innings when he was bowled for 37.

Trott made 35no and with Callum Hendy making 11no all was done and the mood was good on return to base.
