Wellington 3rd XI 105 Ilton 2nd XI 106-5

Wellington 3rd XI took to the stage on Bank Holiday Sunday as they took on Ilton 2nd XI in a Somerset League Division Seven Red match, but the team suffered a disappointing five wicket defeat and collected ten points as a result.

Richard Henwood decided to bat first on winning the toss and saw James Brackenbury and David Derrick add eighteen for the first wicket before Brackenbury was out to a good catch from the bowling of left arm seamer Phillips who with figures of 8-1-12-2 posed issues all game.

Brown’s off spin taking 8-2-15-3 was a test for Wellington as they saw run scoring prove tough as Derrick’s knock of 14 that took around twenty overs to make shows, but he did what he had to.

Ollie Hunt with 19 and Thom Trott with 10 added 23 for the sixth Wellington wicket and Cam Sentance’s flurry of 14 got the side into triple figure territory.

Wellington did reduce the Ilton reply to 32-3 as Ollie Hunt with 1-27 and Tom Hopkins with 2-23 posed questions and with James Brackenbury pulling off a stumping from a wide delivery there was a chance, but the fiery play of C.Lant with 43 saw Ilton to the brink of victory.

There were two wickets for Richard Henwood to make Ilton 99-5, but Jackson and Venn saw their side to a five wicket win.
