Wellington 90 Chard 94-6

Wellington were involved in a low scoring game at Chard in the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier League over the Bank Holiday weekend and came close to pulling off something spectacular through Luke Desave’s express and hostile opening spell.

Wellington innings was a tough affair as Chard’s plethora of left arm spinners used a wicket that was in their favour to return some fine figures as Dalwood with 9-4-18-4 and C.Scott with 9-3-11-0 were both in vogue and with J.Scott’s off spin realising 4.5-1-16-3 the home side had prospered.

Sam Whitefield with 26 (79 balls with three fours) and Paul Short with 27 (90 balls with two fours) were studious and rock solid for the Red and Blacks and Ryan Aingworth with 21no (16 balls with two fours and a six) added some late colour to batting efforts.

Chard were rocked by Luke Desave when it came to their turn to bat as he sliced them open taking 9-1-16-6 in an unbroken spell that saw the home side dip to 22-5 and latterly 43-6, but Mawdsley saw his side home with 45no (78 balls with six fours) as J.Scott with 12no (43 balls with one four) supported him and thus Chard got over the line.
