Wellington Sunday XI 225-8 Kilve Sunday XI 133
Wellington Sunday XI kicked off their 2021 season with a visit to West Somerset League club Kilve last weekend and Macaulay Campbell’s side enjoyed a 92 run win in this non-league match.
On winning the toss Wellington was asked to bat and saw Ben Evett and David Derrick add 22 for the opening wicket; a stand that was ended when Derrick was bowled by left arm bowler Landon (2-30 in seven).
Evett continued to a solid 22, but when he was the third man out for Wellington at 38-3 the Red and Blacks needed to consolidate and then build once more and this was achieved by Jack Beal with 30 and newcomer Richard Grinter with 32 well made runs as the score approached three figures.
From 123-5 Rob Moysey and skipper Campbell added 78 sixth wicket runs in fine style with crisp shots all around the ground as they made 48 and 36 respectively.
Tom Shannon’s breezy 19no took Wellington to 225-8 at the break as James with 7-1-12-1 for Kilve was the pick of their attack on an all round basis as he bowled with control and accuracy with the new ball.
Wellington’s new ball pairing was Tom Shannon and Macaulay Campbell and they roared in for the Red and Blacks and had Kilve at 20-3 as Shannon took the first wicket to fall in taking 1-25 in five overs as Crockett was trapped dead in front of all three stumps and Campbell with 5-1-13-2 was pacy and accurate.
Rock, batting at number three for Kilve, was their mainstay with the bat as he hit 36 until he was sixth out at 66 with Rob Moysey’s leg spin taking 3-9 as his complete array of delivery types was on show.
Kilve’s later order took their side past 100 as Sherburn with 24no saw his play rewarded, but wickets for Oli Beale and Ben Evett ended Kilve’s resistance with three overs going unused.
