Wellington 277-6 Broadway and Horton 183-8
A Wellington CC pre-season XI made the trip to Somerset League Division Three club Broadway and Horton CC on Saturday last and came away with another excellent dose of pre-season action as everyone involved got into the game as the Red and Blacks secured a 94 run win after being asked to bat first.
Tom Chambers and Neil Hendy opened matters for Wellington in excellent weather with a 40 run opening stand to which Chambers contributed 21 well made runs before he was stumped.
Oli Beale gave an excellent study in getting one’s self started and then pushing onwards as he hit 50 with some excellent shots down the ground before giving way at 144.
All the time Hendy was solid and then flourished to the tune of 50 before he too gave way at 148.
Luke Desave with 47 and Ben Evett with 50 took the score to 224 with Desave’s good knock being one of two genuine wickets to fall on the day and Evett was one of those to give way at 269 after another energetic innings from the keeper/batsman.
Skipper Arron Campbell with 18 quickfire runs was the last Wellington batter to give way on the day and Ryan Aingworth and Ollie Hunt took Wellington to, effectively, 277-6 in 40 overs.
Broadway and Horton saw Mason and their skipper Hosken start well as they added 46 opening wicket runs, but Ian Hewson got them both as he took 2-35 in eight overs of solid medium pace and shared the new ball with Will Derrick.
Jake Nichol and Ryan Aingworth shared the mid innings responsibilities for Wellington as Maycock with 66 played a good hand for the home side with both Nichol and Aingworth offering accuracy.
Arron Campbell with 4-44 in seven overs took out the home side’s middle order and it was Norman and Pedlar that saw the game out with Broadway and Horton 94 short of Wellington’s total as Ollie Hunt let just 22 runs go in his seven over spell.
