Wellington 2nd XI 204-6 Broadway and Horton 2nd XI 207-9

Wellington 2nd XI were one wicket away from claiming a full dose of points at Broadway and Horton 2nd XI in the Somerset League’s Playing Bubble Eleven on the Saturday of the Bank Holiday Weekend, but were denied by a home side fightback.

Wellington had been asked to bat on losing the toss and Nathan Roberts and Trevor Brooks reacted well to this by adding 114 for the first wicket as control of the game lay with the Red and Blacks second string as Roberts made 43.

Brooks continued to a second half century in this package of games making a fine 68 all told.

12 from Jacob Hurry, 14no from Alex Derbridge assisted Ryan Adams with 22 to get Wellington past 200 in their forty overs as three run outs were affected by the B and H side with Dummet’s 2-9 in four overs being their best effort with the ball from a bowler.

Wellington started well with the ball and worked through the B and H top order with wickets coming for Ollie Hunt, Connor Wickenden, Oliver Hansard and skipper Alex Troake and at 103-6 Wellington were in the box seat, but a damaging stand of 84 for the seventh wicket as Keyte smashed 57 took the game away from the visitors.

Andy Hurry’s late two wicket blast could not quite save Wellington and they lost by one wicket with one ball going unused and collected 19 points to B and H’s 31 as two teams who would have met in Division Six South had the season gone ahead as planned played out a good game.
