Stoke St Gregory 48 Wellington 2nd XI 50-4
Wellington 2nd XI are up to fourth in the Somerset League’s Playing Bubble Eleven after this six wicket win over Stoke St Gregory at home last weekend when Alex Troake’s side collected 33 points from winning against a side who had made the move from the West Somerset League to the County League’s Division Eight South for the 2020 season.
On winning the toss Wellington asked their visitors to bat first and only Sollis with 15 and Dare with 11 made it to double figures as the Red and Blacks second string saw Tom Shannon and Ollie Hunt take the new ball and do good work with it with 1-21 in five overs and 3-8 in six overs respectively.
Three wickets also came the way of Connor Wickenden with his left arm spin and Tyler Fyfe with his left arm medium pace as Wellington had the SSG innings wrapped up in 17.1 overs.
Wellington did have a wobble as they lost four wickets by the time that the score had reached 26, but Ryan Adams with a classy 32no and Mark Salter with 7no saw the game out and their team over the line without any further cause for concern.
The team has a double dose of bubble action over the Bank Holiday weekend with a visit to Broadway and Horton CC’s 2nd XI on Saturday 29th August to take on 2019’s Division Seven South winners and then closes out this short season with a home game with Ilminster 4th XI, from Division Eight South, on Bank Holiday Monday, 31st August with both games beginning at 1.30pm.
