Wembdon 141-4 Wellington 142-2

Wellington commenced the defence of their Somerset Cricket Board Indoor League title at Somerset CCC last Sunday evening when they chased down a stiff target that had been posted by fellow WEPL Somerset Division side Wembdon after they had been put into bat.

The Red and Blacks won by four wickets with two balls to spare to collect 18 points and go second at this early stage.

Arron Campbell won the toss and asked Wembdon to bat first and they got a good head of steam up as Brockwell slammed 48no in his two visits to the crease.

With Pigden hitting 43no as well the side from Bridgwater was going to have a hefty total on board to bowl at.

Wickets came the way of Will Derrick, Ben Evett and Aks Latifi as Wellington found that they would need to score at 12 an over to win.

Wellington opened with Arron Campbell and Luke Desave and they had 47 on the board in four overs of good robust play that saw the facets of indoor batting delivered well and both were able to reach the retirement mark of 25 and so be able to come back later on.

Ben Evett got to 26no in his usual dynamic manner and this saw that Wellington’s top three were ready for action once more.

Aks Latifi was the first player to be dismissed with the score on 75, but this did not quell the Wellington assault on the required total as Will Derrick and Macaulay Campbell with 18 and 17no made excellent late order runs to take Wellington to within an ace of victory and it was duly completed with Luke Desave making 35no as he rejoined the action to see his side over the line with two balls going unused.

This was a fine win and the team take on Bridgwater in the second of their five games in this competition on Sunday 27th October at 2.45pm GMT.
