Taunton Deane 3rd XI made sure of winning Division Five of the Somerset League at Courtland Road last weekend when they won well against Wellington 2nd XI who have ended this season in ninth place.
The Red and Blacks second string await to see what 2020 will bring them in terms of where they play divisionally as the SCL needs to resolve the three empty places that currently exist in Divisions Three and Four.
As for this game the visitors were asked to bat first when they called incorrectly at the toss and at 29-2 Wellington had a way in to their line up as Jake Nichol and Tom Shannon got amongst the wickets, but Stephenson with 85 and Hill-Lamey with 95 wrested control of the game from Wellington.
Further wickets came the way of both Rob Moysey and Ryan Adams and with two runs outs Wellington had claimed seven bowling points.
With Phillips taking 4-18 in eight overs the visitors had a stranglehold on the Wellington innings as three double figure scores were recorded as Ryan Adams with 23, Rob Moysey with 17 and Tom Shannon with 16no played well, but the game was up with 14 overs going unused as the Deane’s third string recorded a big win to end their successful season.
