Wellington U11 Reds 259-5 Ilminster Bears U11 212- 4

Having been promoted last season as champions Wellington U11 Reds are still in the hunt for honours, following this 47 run victory at Ilminster on Sunday morning.

Wellington took 1st use on a sunny morning with Will Crossley and Robin Hill taking the attack to the hosts as they added 25 runs in their 4 overs.

Ilminster then had a good spell with the ball, as Oscar Milton and Ben Briddon couldn’t add to this tally, which brought in the 3rd pair of Oliver Hutchings and Charlie Young.

They added good runs, but 2 wickets in the 12th over left the total at 231 with only skipper Thomas Gendall and Charlie Crossley to bat.

4 crisp boundaries and some good running, took the total to 259 at the turnaround with Gendall finishing top scorer on 19.

The visitors were in no mood to let a team who started level on points in joint 2nd an easy time batting as they bowled with great pace and fielded magnificently.

Fine catches by Will Crossley behind the stumps, Charlie Young and Oliver Hutchings backed up great bowling from all 7 bowlers with the pick probably just Oscar Milton who took 3 wickets, although 4 run outs showed the determination by all in the field.

The ‘Reds’ still sit in 2nd with 2 games to go although next week they host league leaders Taunton St Andrews who have a 100 % record this season and finish with a game at basement side Taunton Rubies, so they may still rely on other results to go their way to collect the runners up berth.
