Stogumber Sunday XI 162-9 Wellington Sunday XI 163-3
Wellington Sunday XI got their 2019 season underway with this friendly match with West Somerset League Division One Stogumber at their pleasant facility last weekend and it was an away win that was recorded.
A thirty over per side was played due to rain delaying the start and it was the home side who won the toss and decided to bat first.
Rawle and James got going well as they added 72 first wicket runs, but credit to skipper Macaulay Campbell and Tyler Fyfe as Wellington’s new ball pairing as they kept going despite the Stogumber opening pair’s forceful play; same applies to Alex Derbridge.
Fyfe got the breakthrough needed and then Tom Shannon joined the attack to good effect taking 3-13 in six good overs of seam.
Rob Moysey and Ben Evett, taking the day off from keeping, bowled the last few overs for Wellington and took 1-6 and 3-10 in three overs each to see that the Red and Blacks would need 163 to taste success as B.Rexworthy with 45 played a good hand for Stogumber.
Ben Evett and Jacob Hurry began the chase in good style with a 39 run opening stand.
Jack Beal then joined Evett as he blasted 20 to take the score to 76-2 with Evett closing in on a half-century which he duly completed.
There was a fifty for Oli Beale and runs too for Arron Campbell as the game was seen out with five overs to spare to give Wellington an opening win of their Sunday season; next week the team travels to WEPL Premier One club Taunton St Andrews to begin the defence of their Taunton and District Sunday League title…
