Taunton Deane Tornadoes 2 U11 229-6 Wellington Blacks U11 274-6

Wellington’s U11 Blacks team were 45 runs too good for the Deane Tornadoes on Sunday morning for an away fixture played at Castle School.

Deane had 1st use of the pitch, but found Wellington’s opening bowlers of George Davis and Charlie Young too accurate a statement which also applied to Nerys Jones and Thomas Knell who bowled the next two as only 5 runs were added in these 4 overs.

Alex Acton and William Box then took a wicket apiece before Monty Caygill got his 1st taste of league cricket to peg the hosts to 212 at their halfway point.

Further wickets for Young, Jones and Knell in the middle overs kept Wellington firmly on top and a tidy performance from Liam Buddin behind the stumps returning from a broken arm sustained less than 8 weeks ago meant a total of 230 would be needed for victory.

The early reply did not go according to plan as 3 wickets in then first 4 overs brought the hosts into the game, but then Box got in to his stride clubbing 4 boundaries as the total reached 216 at the midway point.

Davis then added 3 more boundaries as Wellington forged ahead and the icing was added by Knell and Young who added a further 39 runs in the last 4 to finish victors by 45 runs.
