Yeovil 3rd XI 182 Wellington 3rd XI 3-1

It was a case of never knowing what was to become of this match in Division Seven South of the Somerset League at Dorset based club Bradford Abbas CC last weekend as Wellington 3rd XI were just 1.4 overs into their reply chasing 183 against their Yeovil CC counterparts when an almighty cloudburst came down and washed the game away so seeing that the result was a draw with both sides taking 22 points.

Wellington had won the toss and asked the home side to bat first and the tactic of using seam and spin with the new ball was on show once more as Ryan Henwood and Alex Derbridge took up the attack and it was Derbridge who was in wicket taking form as he took the first two wickets to fall as good catches from Simon Burrough and Des Campbell each saw that they excelled when they were called on in the field.

Henwood bowled well and deserved some success and Derbridge returned figures of 2-41 in eight overs.

However Wellington’s mid innings catching did not match the standards of the early exchanges as Plympton with 79 and Baker with 60 added 143 third wicket runs having been given several chances, but there was to be a rally by the Red and Blacks third string as Yeovil lost their last seven wickets for just 22 runs as Richard Henwood took 5-20 in six overs which saw him take four wickets in five balls in one over and Connor Wickenden’s slow left armers took 3-24 in four overs as the catching bug came back to the Wellington ranks.

Dave Luxton’s took two high class efforts as the ball swirled all the while it was in the air.

Wellington would need 183 to win after tea and their innings commenced with a ever increasing degree of certainty that the weather gods would get involved and so after ten balls had been sent down and a wicket had been lost David Derrick and Andy Hurry as the not out batters for Wellington and the Yeovil team left the field of play not to return as the playing area was flooded by an intense downpour.
