Taunton Vale U13 149-5 Wellington U13 98-7

Although coming up short Wellington U13 were more competitive in their Taunton and District Youth Leaguye U13 11 a-side west division match at Gypsy Lane on Friday evening.

On winning the toss Vale elected to but on a fine evening and soon at the scoreboard ticking over as Wellington’s new ball trio of Oliver Hansard, Lewie Harrison and Tom Hopkins couldn’t make any inroads and it wasn’t until Oliver Buddin came into the attack with the score on 47 that the first wicket fell.

All 10 outfielders had a go with the ball, but for the hosts Mason and Taylor-Worth passed their retiring score of 30 and Morse with 24 made sure the run rate accelerated.

Harrison returned for a good second spell, and finished with 1-3 from his 3 overs, Buddin returned 2-24, from his spell and skipper James Weymouth took the only other wicket to fall as a formidable total of 149-5 aided by 44 extras was posted.

With players coming back from district training maybe tiredness kicked in as Wellington found themselves 7-3 inside 3 overs.

Weymouth (20), and Oliver Williams (31 retired not out), playing his first game of then season then set about a recovery as both played well as did Archie Lyon-Taylor (11) who stepped in at the last minute due to illness.

Whilst Wellington never looked like winning if the extras are taken off the Vale total the boys were actually only eight runs short at the death.
