Wellington Midweek XI’s opening game of 2019 was a social evening game against Somerset Stragglers CC at Trull CC last Wednesday evening and the Red and Blacks came back with a five wicket loss with just seven balls left in what was an 18 overs per side game.

Oli Beale won the toss and elected to bat and this saw Ben Evett strike 18 to take Wellington forward, but at 29-3 some consolidation was needed and it came from a fourth wicket stand of 65 berween Will Derrick and Rob Moysey who made fine contributions of 35 and 50 not out respectively as Wellington totalled 132-7 in their 18 over allocation.

Wickets were shared out amongst the Wellington attack, but a good knock of 40 not out from Wookey saw the hosts home.
