Wellington Blacks U11 250-4 Bagborough U11 248-7
Wellington U11 Blacks held on for 2 run victory as they took Bagborough’s 100% record on The Quantocks, on Sunday morning.
Batting first the visitors found runs in short supply as opening pair Robin Hill and Flossie Hillman and then Alex Acton and Lucy Adams were pegged back by the accurate home attack so by the innings mid-way point only 211 runs were on the board.
Ben Bridden and William Box were next in and aided by a few extras the run rate crept up as the total reached 228 with 4 overs remaining.
Up stepped ‘skipper Thomas Knell and Charlie Young and the latter struck the 1st boundary before Knell took control crossing the ropes 3 times as the pair added 22 in quick time to finish with a defendable 250.
The hosts were quicker out the blocks as their 1st pair added 16, and a further 8 by their second brace left the tie in the balance at the mid point of the innings.
Wellington rotated the bowling with a wicket each for Hill, Young and Hillman which pegged back the run rate and then 2 wickets for Bridden and 2 more for Box left 26 runs required off the last 4.
Bagborough swung the bat to great effect, but trying to take 11 off of Box, who bowled to great effect all morning, in the last over proved proved beyond the hosts and they finished 2 runs shy.
The Blacks will entertain Taunton Deane Tornadoes, next Sunday (2 June), at Sampford Arundel (10 am).
