Wellington 3rd XI 154 Middlezoy 2nd XI 136

Wellington 3rd XI took part in more Somerset League Division Seven South action last weekend when they hosted Middlezoy 2nd XI on Bank Holiday Monday in a game that had been brought forward from mid June at the Club’s main ground and it was a successful affair that saw the side win by 18 runs and go fourth as a result.

Middlezoy asked Wellington to bat first on winning the toss and at 7-2 this was a good shout from the visitors as Andy Hurry and Jacob Hurry added 55 valuable third wicket runs with the Somerset CCC Director of Cricket hitting a decent 42.

After he had been well caught off of promising young leg spinner B.Pomeroy Des Campbell and Jacob Hurry added a further 55 for the fourth wicket as the skipper weighed in with a season’s best 62 and the keeper made 13.

From 141-4 however Wellington were bowled out for 154 as Turner with 5-12 rushed Wellington’s third string out with two overs going unused.

Middlezoy’s innings was a brisk affair to say the least as they were 21-3 with Tyler Fyfe on a hat-trick as he ended with 4-36 in eight good overs.

Charlie Burrough was quick with the new ball and when he saw that Peppard played on Wellington had started well, but they had not banked on Middlezoy skipper Wilkins playing a hard hitting knock of 46 and he looked as if he could take his side home, but when he tried one shot too many and looped one up to Charlie Burrough in the covers off of Tyler Fyfe and with it Middlezoy were back in trouble as Andy Hurry took 4-24 in eight overs of good accurate brisk medium pace and at 113-9 it seemed all over, but Turner continued his great game with a stand of 23 with last man Cook as they always gave Middlezoy’s second string an outside chance despite Richard Henwood and Macaulay Campbell both bowling well for Wellington.

In the end a run out of Cook who just failed to make his ground gave Wellington 32 points and Middlezoy 16.

Another great atmosphere was on offer on another Bank Holiday Monday and thanks go to all who supported the side and made the trip to watch in generally good weather.
